Our Services

Preventive

Examinations
Regular 6 monthly examinations, as recommended by the Australian Dental Association (ADA) are extremely important part of your dental care.

At Altona Complete Dental Clinic, we use a diagnostic Laser (very popular with the kids) and radiographs as part of a thorough examination of your mouth. Looking for early signs of decay, gum disease, cancer of the mouth, grinding, bit issues, etc.

Fissure Sealants
One method of preventing cavities from developing in the pits and fissures is to seal them off with a special varnish called a pit and fissure sealant.
The whole procedure is quick and painless requiring no injections.

Fluoride treatment
Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also reverses early decay.

At Altona Complete Dental Clinic, we use a fluoride varnish rather than a gel making our treatment more effective.

Tartar and plaque removal also known as a scale and clean
Dental cleanings involve removing plaque (soft, sticky, bacteria infested film) and tartar (calculus) deposits that have built up on the teeth over time. If the scale, or calculus (tartar, as dentists like to call it) is allowed to accumulate on the teeth it will unfortunately provide the right conditions for bacteria to thrive next to the gums. The purpose of the cleaning and polishing is basically to leave the surfaces of the teeth clean and smooth so that bacteria are unable to stick to them and you have a better chance of keeping the teeth clean during your regular home care.

Restorative

Tooth coloured fillings
At Altona Complete Dental Clinic, we have only been using tooth coloured fillings for many years now.

White fillings are made of composite resin and serve to fill cavities, look great, and are not prone to some of the mechanical problems of their predecessor silver amalgam fillings.

Full mouth rehabilitation/reconstruction
Many of us in our 50s to 70s need it but can’t afford it or our dentist has never talked to us about it. A full-mouth reconstruction is a challenging treatment modality. The entire dentition is rehabilitated during a full-mouth reconstruction. The restorative dentist needs to thoroughly understand every aspect of the dentition, its relationship to the temporo-mandibular joints, and the functional interactions of the masticatory muscles. A full-mouth reconstruction approaches the oral cavity truly holistically. It leads to a remarkable end result.

Crowns: Full ceramic, veneered and gold crowns
A crown fits over the existing natural crown, the part of the tooth seen above the gums.
Most crowns on front teeth are made of full porcelain, like veneers, and look every bit as natural, leaving no black line at the gum level like traditional crowns. Porcelain crowns are as strong as natural teeth and are also recommended for replacing old crowns on front teeth.
Other types of crowns, particularly on the back teeth, contain a high gold alloy and have porcelain fused onto the gold alloy. Our expert advanced dental technician also ensures this type of crown will look as a real as a healthy tooth. On rare occasions full gold crowns are used (83% gold and precious alloys) when the back tooth is in an extremely heavy bite situation and clearance levels are minimal. The gold contains alloys to enhance its strength.

Porcelain veneers
Dental veneers are custom-designed shells of tooth-like ceramic material that, when applied over the surface of a tooth, can cover worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, and chips or cracks.

Dental veneers fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry because they create a bright, white smile with beautifully aligned, shapely teeth. Even better, the translucent ceramic quality of today's veneers provides a more natural look than what's been available in the past.

Onlays and Inlays full ceramic and gold

Inlay/onlay is a conservative alternative to full coverage dental crowns.

Once over one-third of tooth structure is damaged, we may offer inlay/onlay alternatives instead of dental fillings.

Less tooth material is removed when compared to a crown so they tend to be more conservative, strong and durable.

Tooth Replacement

Implants
A dental implant can be thought of as an artificial tooth root that is submerged into the jawbone. When dental work such as a crown, fixed bridge or a full set of dentures is added, one or more missing teeth can be replaced. A dental implant is fabricated from a very strong, biocompatible material placed in a simple procedure that, generally, is as convenient as a tooth extraction. After an initial healing period, during which the implant is buried in bone and left undisturbed under gum tissue, it is uncovered and connected to a small metal post that secures and supports the artificial tooth.

Bridges
Both crowns and most bridges are fixed prosthetic devices. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which you can take out and clean daily, crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants, and can only be removed by a dentist.

Dentures and denture stabilization
A technological break-through now available in our practice is denture stabilization also known as Single Day Implants. The procedure stabilizes the existing upper or lower denture by anchoring it into place using mini dental implants or MDIs.

The entire procedure can be completed in a matter of hours... with results that can be quite stunning. Patients can hardly believe the improvement in their abilities to eat, speak, laugh and smile. In many cases, patients do not require brand new dentures.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is the removal of the tooth's pulp, a small, thread-like tissue in the center of the tooth. Once the damaged, diseased or dead pulp is removed, the remaining space is cleaned, shaped and filled. This procedure seals off the root canal. Years ago, teeth with diseased or injured pulps were removed. Today, root canal treatment saves many teeth that would otherwise be lost.

Tooth Whitening

Over time, teeth often become discoloured and stained. Sometimes yellowing is simply a result of aging, but coffee, tea, red wine, colas, and cigarettes can also play a part. Fortunately, these effects can be reversed using our in-office or at-home teeth whitening solutions.
